AFM and STM manipulation of individual nanostructures

STM and conducting AFM are used in different operating modes and under different conditions to exploit local nanometer-scale current or force variations on diamond surfaces. These local probe techniques are also used to manipulate single nano-objects or to fabricate nanostructures.

Techniques : AFM - STM - Chemical synthesis of semiconductor nanocrystals - Hydrogenation of surfaces - Pulsed Valve Deposition

Highlights

Low voltage fabrication of sub-nanometer insulating layers on hydrogenated diamond. A new regime of electrochemical anodic oxidation induced by an atomic force microscope (AFM) is demonstrated. With this approach, insulating nanostructures on a hydrogenated diamond surface can be produced.
